Jelgava lies on the Lielupe in the flat, fertile plain of Zemgale. Winters are cold and open, summers warm. A barrel sauna in a wide garden is a pleasure in both.

Spring floods on the river can affect low ground, so choose a raised site.

Houses, farms and university town

Jelgava has a university and many family houses on the edges of town. Villages like Ozolnieki and Svēte have generous plots. The flat ground makes a slab base easy.

A 2 m barrel suits a town garden; a 3 m barrel a country one.

Delivery and assembly in Jelgava

Delivery is by lorry with a tail-lift. Production takes 4 to 6 weeks, plus about a week. Two adults assemble in about two days, or our crew does it from 1 390 €.

Wide gardens and long summer evenings

Zemgale is Latvia's breadbasket, and the land around Jelgava is flat and open. Houses often have large gardens with fruit trees and vegetable beds, so there is space to site a barrel sauna away from the house, perhaps beside an orchard.

Summer evenings are long and warm, and a short session after gardening is a pleasure. In winter the sauna becomes a quiet place to retreat when the plain is white and the wind blows across it.

The flat ground makes the base easy: slabs on compacted gravel, levelled with a spirit level. Spring thaw can leave low spots wet, so choose the highest part of the plot.
